GLP-1 Weight Loss Plateau: Breaking Through

Published on The Good After | By Cam Reeves

Why Plateaus Happen

Weight loss plateaus are normal and happen for biological reasons. Your body adapts to the medication, your metabolic rate adjusts to your new weight, and appetite suppression may decrease over time.

Increase Physical Activity

If you haven't been exercising, now's the time to start. Strength training is particularly effective as it builds muscle mass, which increases your resting metabolic rate. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate cardio plus 2 days of resistance training weekly.

Reassess Nutrition

Review your eating habits. Are you consuming more calories than you realize? Are you getting enough protein? Work with a registered dietitian to fine-tune your nutrition plan.

Talk to Your Doctor

Your healthcare provider might adjust your medication dose or frequency. Sometimes a higher dose can help break through a plateau. Don't make changes on your own—always consult your doctor first.

Be Patient

Plateaus are usually temporary. Continue your healthy habits and give your body time. You may not see weight loss for a few weeks, but other positive changes—like improved energy or better fitting clothes—might still be happening.
